  Hi everyone.. I need some advice...!!!

  hey!

  i'm new to this forum as a user, 'been hanging around for a while and enjoyed reading the posts here, .

  this site has provided a lot of confidence and encouragement to me through harsh times.

  I agree with this statement - how many JWS are still going to the meetings, going out on field service, attending district and circuit conventions for no other reason than they know no other way of life. And they also know that if they stop going they will most probably lose their JW friends and family.

  But the vast majority are secretly desparately unhappy about their way of life but feel trapped.

  I would unhesitantly recommend that you politely make your new life arrangements known to your family and close friends. Do not shun them - always make them feel welcome - but do not be made to feel guilty in any way for making your own life choices.

  I was brought up as a JW - I left 7 years ago - and my life is now so much better, happier and content.

  Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

  we're talking about a "supreme being" who hates a lot, is violent and vindictive, fascist, any "love" is totally conditional, plays mean mind games (sacrifice your son for me)....he probably oughta be locked up!

  I would suggest that he would be diagnosed as having not just a borderline personality disorder, but in fact a full blown psychopathic disorder (see Mental Health Act 1983, s1), as he clearly displays (and has done for the last few thousand years!) behaviour that is dangerous.

  His past behaviour has shown that medication and psychological therapies won't cure the problem, however he clearly ought to be detained indefinitely for the safety and protection of others. Definitely with a restriction order added on to prevent early release.

  In a High Secure Unit.

  Treatment plan = daily acuphase!

  Just my thoughts!

  do you believe that the watchtower society's dirty laundry should be suppressed so that prospective converts to this group will not be able to see both sides of the story?

  .

  after all, will what they don't know about the watchtower society really harm them?.

  My view is that before an individual can make an informed choice about a matter they need to be in posession of all the facts.

  An individual being enticed into the religion will only see the good side. It is only after being in the religion for a number of years - and potentially then bringing up children in that religion, that they will begin to see the deadly flaws.

  But by then it may be too late for them to just to be able to leave without fatally damaging their family infrastructure.

  Best to know the "truth" now rather than later.

  i believe in god, but i also realize he may not exist.. if you don't believe in god, i really don't care, i'm just curious.. i don't have this need to start threads like "why you must believe in god", or other such nonsense, but some of you still have this "control" issue that you thought you left in the org.

  it seems like you must still try to control what others think.

  The crux is that no-one really knows what the future holds. All is guesswork and supposition.

  Everyone's views and opinions should be respected.

  Open debate is healthy.

  The practice of shunning just because someone has a different belief is cruel and divisive.

  Most if not all of the exJWs on this board are being shunned by family and ex"friends". I would respectfully suggest that is the reason why there is so much anger on this board.

  People are precious. Beliefs are not.

  what official body appoints elders in the UK?

  is it wtbs of great britain, ibsa or some other entity?

  or are they appointed by a us based incorporation?

  Jws working my neighborhood...

  and i missed them again.

  last time i saw them walking down the other side of my street.

  today they stopped by when i was out and i missed them by about ten or twenty minutes and no they didn't leave any mags.

  My personal view is that you must never ever be nasty, rude or insulting to a JW. And never slam the door in their fact. No matter how much you may want to!

  Reason?

  It will only reinforce their Watchtower fed view that all those who are not JWS are "worldly" "bad associates" and turn into nasty human beings!

  Our job is to teach them, by example, that ex JWs are lovely splendid folk.

  Next time they call at your door do not tell them you are an exJW - ask them all the questions that you know they cannot answer.

  For example, ask them: If god is loving why does he permit wickedness - they will never be able to answer that satisfactorily without resorting to the usual WT answers. Liken god to a doctor who, whilst knowing their patient is in pain and suffering and likely to die and whilst having a meds cabinet full of curing drugs, refuses to open the cupboard. When a doctor does it is called clinical negligence and he (rightly) gets sued, struck off and in some cases imprisoned. When god does it is called....what....exactly??!! Invite them to use their own logic. Then, and only then, tell them that you are an ex JW. All the while being friendly. Encourage them not to believe everything they hear at the Kingdom Hall - urge them to question and research.

  They will go down your garden path, not with a sense of righteous martydom, but with a sense of unease!

  And that...my friends...is the best of way "getting" to a JW!!!!!

  And it may be that will actually start them truly thinking about what they are doing!

  It may as well be the Smurfs for all the actual real power they wield in the real world!!!!!

  As far as attending a JC is concerned - I wouldn't bother.

  Your attendance at their commend will only reinforce the lie and misperception that they wield power!

  But if you do go - have lots of fun with them!

  grad school

  well, tomorrow is the first day of orientation and my first legal research and writing course.

  i don't know what law school will consist of, but i'm anxious to find out.

  i can hardly believe i've been out of school since december.

  Those wicked worldly people

  well twenty days ago, my wife decided to check things out and start reading and posting here.

  i thought i'd give a bit of an update on how things are going because she's still quite reluctant to create a new topic herself.

  she has been reading alot of older posts on the forums and getting caught up, that has led to a few topics or comments by me that she's questioned me on.

  Hi!

  It is difficult to do Christmas for the first time. When I first went out to buy christmas decorations (7 years ago) I felt as if I was doing something really awful! But it isn't awful. It is fun and the best thing is being able to join in with others when they are making christmas plans.

  I have made it my own tradition to make a proper christmas pudding (with real ale!).

  And with regard to your query about whether or not to DA yourself - I honestly wouldn't bother. By making the statement to the elders that you want to DA yourself, you are giving them a power that actually doesn't exist. They have no judicial authority over you at all. The "power" they think they have over you is just in their head (and in the pages of the Watchtower, but we know how well they shred don't we??!!)

  Just walk away from it and straight to your local Christmas tree farm! Enjoy!
